Had a quotation from this company for damp proofing at my mother’s house.
We were given a start date and they arrived on time and removed plastering and rendering. They removed two power points, damp proofed the wall and re plastered. The plasterer did a neat clean job.
However, a man returned and fitted a new skirting board and refitted the two power points. We noticed that the skirting board had been left 1.5” short at one end, but decided as this wasn’t particularly in view, we would accept it. On plugging into the upper power point, found there was no power. We then tried the lower power point but could not get the plug into the socket due to thickness and positioning of the skirting board. I called Bensleys and spoke to a very helpful secretary who said they would send someone round to sort it which they did three days later.
Two men arrived to rectify the matter, one of them being the man who had originally done the electrics and another who set to put it right. On removing the lower point it was seen that one live and two neutral cables had not been connected. I asked if he was an electrician and he replied ‘you only have to be a competent person!’ When I the customer pointed out to him that these cables had not been connected he replied ‘I’m too old for this game and I need to go to my van to get my glasses as I can’t see a thing without them!’ The other man who had originally done the work just stood looking angry. He brought the power point forward so that it could be used and declared it complete. I pointed out to him that he had not fitted the sleeving on the earth cable as it was laying on the floor in front of the power point. Very unhappily, he removed the cover and fitted the sleeving. I spoke to the secretary again to voice my disappointment and worries about the safety aspect of leaving the job without testing that it was working and that it could obviously have been very dangerous. She arranged for the manager to call me which he did the following day.
His attitude was the rudest I have ever come across, telling me how grateful I should be that he sent two people at great cost to himself to correct the problem and that he didn’t appreciate being lectured to.
Never again would I use this company!
